The Library has around 14,000 volumes of books, 2,700 serial publications, 274 current paper subscriptions of international scientific journals, 1,388 thesis and 15 materials in electronic format.

The Operating Technical Support Division has 6 workshops, namely: Electronics, Maintenance, Mechanics, Fine Mechanics, Glazing and Carpentry. The workshops operate in electric, hydraulic, cooling, electronic and pneumatic maintenance, in addition to production and maintenance of furniture, iron and glazing parts.

The Institute houses the All Química Consultoria Júnior, a non-profitable entity, managed by undergraduate students aiming at providing consultancy in several fields of chemistry to micro, small and medium companies, as well as providing undergraduate students with access to the real professional life. It presents several projects both in research and technological development. All Química Consultoria Júnior can be contacted at http://www.allquimicajr.com.br/.

The Institute of Chemistry also houses the Analytical Central, a center equipped to provide a wide range of services, such as: classic qualitative and quantitative analyses, application of analytical methodology, development of new procedures and analytical methods, product development, process improvement, solid, liquid and gas waste analysis, wide bibliographic research, chemical metrology and quality programs. It keeps different institutional agreements among which we can cite the agreement executed with the National Oil Agency – ANP, for automotive fuel quality control.

The Institute has 84 full time professors with exclusive dedication (from which 8 are volunteer collaborators) holding at least the Doctor in Sciences’ degree.

Since its opening, it has published around 3,500 articles in national and mainly international scientific journals and around 8,000 works have been presented in scientific meetings in Brazil and abroad. The research lines area: Aluminosillicate: Sol-Gel Synthesis; Application of Theoretical Calculations of Organic Molecules; Bio-organic; Calorimetry and Microcalorimetry; Catalysis; Biocompatible Ceramic of Calcium Phosphate; Sciences of Materials: Polymers; Combustion: Radicals and Mechanisms; Development of New Synthetic Methodologies; Energetic Connections; Chemical Teaching; Chemical Balances in Solution; Mass Spectrometry; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy; Vibration Spectroscopy; Physical Chemistry Organic; Photochemistry and Classic Photophysics and with Lasers; Organic Geochemistry; Instrumentation and Automation in Analytical Chemistry; Separation Analytic Methods; Kinetic Methods in Analytical Chemistry; Touch Analysis Methods; Chemical Separation Methods per Membranes; Electroanalytic Methods; Spectroanalytic Methods; Semi-Amorphous Conductor Shaping; Sample Preparation; Natural Products; Environmental Chemistry; Biologic Chemistry; Colloidal Chemistry; Coordination Chemistry; Material Chemistry; Theoretical Chemistry; Chemotherapy; Chemometrics; Electric and Magnetic Rheology; Total and Partial Synthesis of Organic Molecules; Thermodynamics; Thermochemistry.

The Institute of Chemistry offers two Chemistry Courses: a) the day-time Chemistry Course that prepares Bachelors, Bachelors in Technological Chemistry and Teaching. The Bachelor in Chemistry course is attended by students willing to prepare for careers in higher degree, in research and development (in universities, research institutes and corporations) and in chemical analysis and environmental control activities. The Bachelor of Technological Chemistry course provides professional qualification for several R&D activities, technical support and industrial production. The Teaching student can teach at medium and higher institutions. b) The Chemistry Course – Technological Modality, offered in the night period, is attended by students particularly willing to carry out an industrial activity.
